The Sons of the American Legion have long stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the American Legion in a shared mission: honoring the service of our nation’s veterans and ensuring they receive the care, respect, and support they have earned. Here in Connecticut, our Detachment remains firmly committed to upholding these principles through service, outreach, and community involvement.
The American Legion continues to play a vital role in advocating for veterans, supporting military families, and strengthening our communities. From local post programs to statewide initiatives, the Legion’s dedication helps ensure that veterans have access to essential resources, compassionate assistance, and the camaraderie that comes from belonging to a community that truly understands their sacrifices.
As members of the Sons of the American Legion, we take great pride in advancing these efforts. Whether we are assisting at events, supporting fundraising activities, or lending a hand wherever needed, we strive to reflect the same devotion to service that our veterans have shown to our country. Every hour volunteered and every project completed contributes to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who served.
As I step into the role of Detachment Commander, I look forward to serving our members and strengthening the great work we do together. I hope to see strong participation at our detachment meetings and events throughout the year. Your involvement not only supports the mission of the American Legion Family, but also helps us build a more active, engaged, and impactful Detachment here in Connecticut.

Preamble
Proud possessors of a priceless heritage, we male decedents of veterans of all wars, associate ourselves together as “Sons of the American Legion” for the following purposes:
To uphold and defend the constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a true spirit of Americanism; to preserve the memories of our former members and the association of our members and our forefather in all wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the Community, State and Nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our friendship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; to adopt in letter and spirit all of the great principles for which The American Legion stands; and to assist in carrying on for God and Country.
NEW - Membership Eligibility - Criteria
All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of The American Legion, and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I or since December 7, 1941, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, Section 1, of the National Constitution of The American Legion or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion.
There shall be no form or class of membership except an active membership.
